~단다/란다 is a quotation construction that is often used in story-telling for kids.
It is also used when an adult give an explanation or an advice to a kid.

밥을 너무 많이 먹으면 체한단다.
It literally means "it is said that ~ ".

[연습] You and your partner be a child and a parent.
The child asks a question and the parent gives an advice or explanation to the child.
